The Top 20 Albums Of 2011

Because this is a personal site there are bound to be a few great albums missing from this list that I probably love, I just don’t know it. What I can say however is that many of the albums I did listen to properly I absolutely loved. It may not have been the best year ever in terms of new albums, but it certainly was a pretty good one. Anyway, now that I’m feeling suitably defensive, here are my favourite albums of the year. Set to shit haiku. Because why not?

Big Day Out Sideshows

While I wasn’t personally a big fan of the Big Day Out lineup this year, and can’t really see myself braving that crowd again, there are definitely a few bands I would quite like to see at headline shows. Splendour In The Grass Day Two Review

But I’ll do my best anyway, because it was a show that deserves a writeup.

Foster The People Remix Grouplove And Vice Versa

Possibly coming about from their mutual stint in Australia for Splendour In The Grass, two of the best new bands going around at the moment, Foster The People and Grouplove, have remixed each others’ signature track.

The Essential Listening Of 2011 Up To Now

I’ve never been a big fan of these halfway-through-the-year lists, but it’s been such a diverse and fast-moving few months for music that I felt it might be a good idea to just sit back for a while and decide on the songs from the first half of 2011 that I would classify as truly essential listening. Some of these are just great individual tracks, while others are indicative of a fantastic overall album. Either way though, I believe these are just some of the artists that have done exciting things so far this year and that everyone should be listening to.
