I do love me some The xx, even if their lack of capitalization drives me crazy whenever I post about them. Rumours have been circulating about a new album from the band for a while now, and these rumours were recently confirmed by the band on Facebook, who posted a photo of themselves recording new material. It looks like they’ve been trialing some of these songs live, and thanks to the website ‘MTHR FNKR’ you can now listen to not one but five new The xx songs played live.

Lovett ‘All The Time’

Ben Lovett (NOT also of Mumford And Sons) makes some damn fine solo music. Moreover, he makes a lot of very eclectic and diverse solo music, ranging from upbeat dancefloor fillers to dark grungy numbers. And he does this all within the space of one album, namely his debut LP ‘Highway Collection’, which was released last year and features tracks recorded over the space of three years as he traveled around America. One of these songs is ‘All The Time’, and it’s definitely a personal favourite of mine.

CÅ“ur De Pirate ‘Saint-Laurent’

Recently I’ve discovered that I really like French pop music. Or rather, that I really like one French-Canadian pop singer in particular. Her name is CÅ“ur de Pirate, which is French for Pirate Heart, and you might have heard of her through her vocals contribution to a Bedouin Soundclash track.

Gig Review: Pinback @ The Corner Hotel, 21st August

Playing to an under-capacity crowd on a Sunday night cannot be an easy thing to do. But, for Pinback’s recent show at the Corner Hotel, what the crowd lacked in size they made up for with enthusiasm, obvious love for the band, and appreciation of good music. Combined with Pinback’s unique take on rock music, this made for a very enjoyable and very memorable gig.

Young The Giant ‘My Body’

This Californian five-piece are something rather awesome. They write the kind of melody-driven rock music that just seems destined for stadiums, infused with so much energy and passion that to listen to it at any volume below maximum seems like you’re doing the band a disservice.
