Young The Giant ‘My Body’

I admit I initially skipped over Young The Giant on the Splendour In The Grass bill, having only really heard of them in passing on a couple of other music blogs. There were bigger names to focus on. But then they were chosen to support Grouplove for their sideshows, and I paid a bit more attention. Finally, I recently checked them out properly, and man am I impressed.

This Californian five-piece are something rather awesome. They write the kind of melody-driven rock music that just seems destined for stadiums, infused with so much energy and passion that to listen to it at any volume below maximum seems like you’re doing the band a disservice.

If the clip below is anything to go by, their live show is fantastic as well. Stage invasions and crowd surfing abound, and that can only be a good thing.

The song is called My Body, and it’s taken from their debut self-titled album released earlier this year, which is a very strong all-round offering and may well prove one of the sleeper hits of the year as they start to take off globally thanks to the hype machine. It appears like their show with Grouplove has already been changed to something of a double-headliner, which is just fine with me (assuming Grouplove still play last). You can also check out the studio version of My Body below for comparison.

I think this is yet another must-see band touring Australia in the next few months.

  1. Have to agree with you here. On the strength of Apartment and the fact they’re touring with Grouplove, I picked up their album and wasn’t disappointed. Very much looking forward to seeing them in August.
