When I first heard San Cisco’s EP ‘Golden Revolver’ early last year I had the feeling that I’d be hearing a lot more of the Perth band very soon, but to be honest I had no idea just how much or just how soon. The band’s recent single Awkward was a career-maker, polling in at number seven on some countdown I’ve never heard of before and earning the band a huge following around the country that has seen them all but sell out their current national tour. Well San Cisco are back with the second taste of their upcoming ‘Awkward’ EP, ‘Rocket Ship’.

Ocean Versus Daughter ‘Appolina’
The story of how Ocean Versus Daughter began life as a band sounds as if it was plucked from the pages of fiction. Lead singer Flanna Sheridan moved to Prague in an effort to break free of a desk job, where she proceeded to meet the four other members of the band in increasingly unlikely scenarios, ranging from Matt Ford, a Brit who had been ‘holidaying’ in Prague for over two years, to Jarmila Junková, a Czech girl who had been studying music theory while traveling around Europe in a caravan.

Umpire ‘Corner An Owl In An Alcove’
Based in Perth, Umpire have been around the music scene for the better part of five years now, but only released their debut album, ‘Now We’re Active’, last year. The wonderfully titled single ‘Corner An Owl In An Alcove’ is the perfect example of this.

Lovett ‘All The Time’
Ben Lovett (NOT also of Mumford And Sons) makes some damn fine solo music. Moreover, he makes a lot of very eclectic and diverse solo music, ranging from upbeat dancefloor fillers to dark grungy numbers. And he does this all within the space of one album, namely his debut LP ‘Highway Collection’, which was released last year and features tracks recorded over the space of three years as he traveled around America. One of these songs is ‘All The Time’, and it’s definitely a personal favourite of mine.

And The Giraffe ‘Underground Love’
I’ve been meaning to post the song ‘Underground Love’ from Florida(ian?) band And The Giraffe for a while now, and what finally swayed me was the fantastic music video that the band have just recorded to accompany the track, which is taken from their debut album ‘Something For Someone’. The video was shot in Los Angeles over the course of three days and with a budget of approximately $0, but it has come out a treat. Check this out.
