San Cisco ‘Awkward’

If you read my review of San Cisco’s excellent debut EP ‘Golden Revolver’ then you already know that I’m kind of a big fan of the teenage Perth band. It should come as no surprise then that I also really like their latest song (I think it’s been floating around for a while but I must have missed it), ‘Awkward’. The track is the first single from their upcoming second EP, which was recorded in Melbourne with producer Steven Schram, responsible for a few small bands like Little Red and The Cat Empire. Anyway, enough foreplay, check it out.

The Demon Parade ‘All The Cool Kids’

The new track from Melbourne boys The Demon Parade is pretty great. It’s called ‘All The Cool Kids’, and I think you should listen to it.

The Kritzlers ‘To Anywhere But Here’

You may have heard of The Kritzlers. Originally from Brisbane, the band migrated to Melbourne earlier this year to release their debut full-length album ‘Cochlear Kill’, which includes a couple of older singles released while the band was still based in Brisbane. Most notable of these older tracks is ‘Scarlet Sometimes’, which received a bit of love from the ol’ Js, and deservedly so. I’ve had a chance to listen to ‘Cochlear Kill’, and while it really is a fantastically strong all-round album, the one track that really stands out to me is the opener, ‘To Anywhere But Here’.

Bree Tranter ‘Winter’

Like a lot of people I was pretty disappointed with the breakup of Townsville’s most promising new band (not that there was a huge amount of competition), The Middle East. Born out of the death of that outfit however is the new career of former bandmember Bree Tranter, who provided the vocals for many of the more haunting moments of The Middle East’s music. Listen to her new(ish) solo single ‘Winter’.

The Clues ‘This Year’

It really does seem as if Brisbane has a monopoly on happy Australian indie pop music at the moment. And I was recently introduced to a new band to add to the growing collection, The Clues. They do enough to set themselves apart from the rest by packing so many different ideas and styles into single tracks, and ‘This Year’ is the perfect example of this.

The Good China ‘No More Maps, No More Roads’

When I saw Melbourne eight-piece The Good China live last year one song really stood out to me, their closing number ‘No More Maps, No More Roads’. At the time I was disappointed to find out that it was unreleased, but the band have recently rectified this, releasing the song as a single and a free download from their Bandcamp page. Yay!
