Glen Hansard ‘Philander’

Short of a new album from The Frames (which is looking increasingly unlikely to ever happen), a new Glen Hansard solo album is the best news I could have hoped for from the Irish singer/songwriter. The album is called ‘Rhyme And Response’, and it’s out June 19th. This is the first single from it, ’Philander’.

JJ ‘Beautiful Life’

Despite my continuing refusal to use lowercase ‘J’s, I’m actually a really big fan of the Swedish duo. Despite hitting some mainstream success with earlier releases the band is still a bit of a mystery, and in typical fashion they’ve released a new song onto the internet out of nowhere, entitled ’Beautiful Life’. Here it is.

Tom Milek ‘Vicious Curves’

Melbourne musician Tom Milek plays some really really gorgeous music, he’s just released his debut EP, and he’s about to tour around Australia. That’s definitely a winning combination. The EP in question is called ‘Love And Ambition’, and the title sums up Tom’s music quite well: it would be a bit cliched if it was so genuine and so deftly executed. It will be the band’s first traditional LP release since 2008. There’s also a seven song tracklisting, included below, as is the album’s first single, Ekki Múkk. Fuck yeah.

Sufjan Is Coming Back

In what is genuinely surprising news, Sydney’s Vivid Festival has announced today the first act of their 2012 lineup, and it is none other than Sufjan Stevens. Given that Sufjan toured Australian last year you could have been forgiven for thinking that he wouldn’t be making it back out our way for a while, but this news will no doubt be welcomed by hardcore fans as well as those who missed his tour last year. That is of course assuming that he will announce a series of dates around Australia to coincide with his appearance at Vivid.
