Sufjan Is Coming Back

In what is genuinely surprising news, Sydney’s Vivid Festival has announced today the first act of their 2012 lineup, and it is none other than Sufjan Stevens. Given that Sufjan toured Australian last year you could have been forgiven for thinking that he wouldn’t be making it back out our way for a while, but this news will no doubt be welcomed by hardcore fans as well as those who missed his tour last year. That is of course assuming that he will announce a series of dates around Australia to coincide with his appearance at Vivid.

Personally I’d be more excited if this tour came with an announcement that Sufjan would be playing more old stuff and less ‘Age Of Adz’, and if he sticks with playing the entirety of his latest album as his main set then I might find it hard to justify going to see him three times within two years. But of course any tour featuring an artist of the caliber of Sufjan should be welcomed, regardless of peripheral factors. Other exciting news is that Bryce Dessner of The National will be involved with the festival, even though it is unclear how. Given Dessner’s incredible music talent and his connections within the indie world, this could be a masterstroke.

Vivid Festival takes place in Sydney from May the 25th through June the 3rd, with a full lineup announcement coming March the 15th. Stay tuned for possible details on a Sufjan tour.
