Sharon Van Etten ‘Serpents’

I’ve been a big fan of American singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten since I was introduced to her music through her collaboration with The National on their track Think You Can Wait. And now it appears that The National are returning the favour, as brothers Bryce and Aaron Dessner are among the incredible list of musicians who will make contributions to Sharon Van Etten’s new album, ‘Tramp’, which is due out February 2012. Also on that list is Zach Condon, Julianna Barwick, and The Walkman’s Matt Barrick, among many others. Today we got the first taste of ‘Tramp’, the single ‘Serpents’.

The National ‘Twenty Miles To NH Part 2’

This track hit the interwebs a couple of weeks ago but I completely missed it, which means, hey, you might just have missed it as well. In which case I am happy to present to you a new studio recording from the greatest band in the world, The National, performing a cover of a Philistines Jr. track, ‘Twenty Miles To NH Part 2’. And holy shit what a cover it is.

Jens Lekman ‘I Don’t Know What To Do With This Information’

Fresh off releasing one of the best EPs of the year, ‘An Argument With Myself’, Melbourne-based Swede Jens Lekman played an acoustic session for London’s Maida Vale studios, where he opened proceedings with a new track entitled ‘I Don’t Know What To Do With This Information’. It sounds a lot like your typical Jens song: pretty, witty, and downright fantastic. Have a listen.

Allbrook/Avery ‘Wait ‘Til Morning’

Allbrook/Avery is, fittingly, a collaboration between Nick Allbrook and Cameron Avery, both of whom you may recognise from other projects such as Pond, Tame Impala, and Growl. I’ve been receiving emails about the band for a while but only checked them out very recently, and I must say I’m quite impressed, even though it’s not exactly the type of music I usually listen to. The guys have just released their debut album, ‘Big Art’, which includes previous single ‘Empty’ as well as this track, ‘Wait ‘Til Morning’.

The Belligerents ‘Steal Money’

Earlier in the year I posted about The Belligerents’ debut EP ‘Less Arty, More Party’, noting that it was not only wonderfully titled but also a really fun, energetic, and upbeat record. Well the Brisbane band have just released their next single following said EP, a collaboration with dance outfit Mitzi entitled ‘Steal Money’. Lend it your ears.

Active Child ‘Diamond Heart’

Active Child is the moniker of LA electronic musician Pat Grossi, but then if you don’t already know that then you probably don’t listen to a lot of Australian radio, because his debut album ‘You Are All I See’ has been played like crazy lately. Local label Spunk have recently announced that they will be re-releasing the album as a deluxe edition, featuring some new bonus tracks, one of which is the rather stunning ‘Diamond Heart’, which personally I find as good or even better than most of the album itself, which is a high compliment indeed.
