Last night Noah And The Whale played their sold out Splendour sideshow at the Corner Hotel with flair and class, illustrating everything that made them such a hit at the festival and has garnered them a strong international following.

Gig Review: Grouplove @ The Corner Hotel, 2nd August
Rarely do you get a band whose name so perfectly encapsulates everything that they are about as Los Angeles’ Grouplove. Their music is nothing short of brilliant, but yet it really is their energy and obvious love for one another and for their fans that make Grouplove’s live shows so very amazing. And they demonstrated this beautifully last night at the Corner Hotel for their Melbourne Splendour sideshow.

Gig Review: Foster The People @ The HiFi, 27th July
This review is going to be a bit different to usual, which probably just means that it’s going to be short enough so that you might actually finish it. I didn’t have a chance to write up Fotser The People’s Splendour sideshow before heading to Splendour itself, and now all my music brain space has been taken up by memories of the festival. Gig Review: James Blake @ The Prince Bandroom, 26th July
James Blake’s live show comes with near-impossible expectations. He doesn’t play the type of music that is easy to transfer onto a live setting, and moreover he doesn’t play the type of music to which a crowd can give him any real immediate feedback, apart from nodding along slowly and clapping in between tracks. More than anything my uncertainty as to the overall feelings towards the show were probably indicative of the fact that the crowd, for the better part of the night, had simply been in a trance, held captive by three men (but one in particular), unable to move or think properly without breaking the spell that James Blake had cast on an entire sold out Prince Bandroom crowd.

Gig Review: Boy And Bear @ The Corner Hotel, 27th May
Last night Boy And Bear played a flawless set of death folk to a packed Corner Hotel crowd that more than justified their meteoric rise in Australian music, very ably supported by the always wonderful Jinja Safari.

Gig Review: Children Collide @ The Prince Bandroom, 22nd April
Last night Children Collide played a furious and exuberant set at the Prince Bandroom that left the crowd stunned and sweaty. There was always the risk of the show being stolen by opening act Red Riders, with the Aussie favourites recently announcing that this would be their second last Melbourne show, however whilst the support act were indeed very enjoyable, Children Collide left everyone in no doubt whatsoever as to who the headline act was.
