Local Natives ‘Breakers’

Local Natives are one of my favourite new discoveries of the last few years, and also one of the nicest bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of briefly meeting. They had been pretty quiet following the release of their incredible album ‘Gorilla Manor’, but a couple of days ago they finally uploaded a new single to the internet, along with the announcement that their new album, ‘Hummingbird’, will drop January 28th. The song is called Breakers, and to be honest it’s not quite what I was expecting. It’s a bit more restrained and introspective than the more glorious moments of ‘Gorilla Manor’, and it’s probably the most textured song we’ve heard from the LA band to date. Of course none of that is necessarily good or bad: it’s a good song, and I can’t wait for the record.
