It’s pretty rare that you can see three fantastic bands at the one gig for one very low price, but that’s exactly what those who visited the Corner Hotel last Thursday enjoyed. The double-headline bill of old indie favourites Portugal. The Man and new kids on the block Givers was a brilliant combination albeit a bit of an odd one, and chuck in opening act Guineafowl and you really do have an incredible gig for a Thursday night. It was lovely to get a bit of a taste of Laneway, and all the bands involved definitely delivered.

Gig Review: Beirut @ The Forum, 10th January
Not many bands can calmly walk onto stage and play two of my favourite ever songs within the first ten minutes of the show. But that’s exactly what Zach Condon and his band did a couple of nights ago at The Forum in Melbourne, with a casual nonchalance that contrasted with just how important their music obviously was to many of the adoring people packed into the sold out venue. And the night had only just begun.

The Tiger And Me ‘The Smoke’
Melbourne band The Tiger And Me recently released the second in their series of three recordings, ‘The Silent City’, following from part one ‘The Howling Fire’, which was released in July of this year. ‘The Smoke’ is the first single taken from ‘The Silent City’, and it makes for enthralling listening. At once restrained and grandiose, with orchestral elements that threaten to explode and take over the song but never do as well as gorgeous interplay between male and female vocals, this is a must listen song.
