Following the announcement that their hotly anticipated second album will be entitled ‘Coexist’, The XX will return to Australia this July for two intimate shows in Melbourne and Sydney. I caught the band last time they were here, and while they were only ‘good’ at Laneway I imagine that they are much better suited to headline indoor shows as opposed to festivals, so this really is a tour not to be missed.

Boy And Bear @ The Forum, 18th Of May
It seems like an eternity ago when I saw a bunch of nervous guys play their first ever festival set in a cramped tent at Homebake. Since then Boy And Bear’s rise in Australian music has been nothing short of meteoric, and at no time has this been more clear than last night, when they played the second of two sold out shows at The Forum in Melbourne. And it was immediately obvious that the band have polished their live act to the point now where they are perfectly comfortable with playing a one and a half hour set in front of thousands of people, which it really didn’t seem like they were as little as a year ago. Them Swoops ‘Work Around It’
Cosine Records have been putting out some fantastic Australian releases recently, and the latest band to join the family is Melbourne’s Them Swoops. The duo are so good that Cosine Records have actually released a double A-side record from the boys as opposed to the split-release that they are accustomed to. It’s hardly surprising either: this is melodious, sweeping, infectious indie pop that can sound uncannily like Napoleon-era Phoenix at times, which is meant as the highest of compliments.
