Brisbane band Tin Can Radio produced some great indie pop music last year, at the same time as they built a reputation for having a killer and very energetic live show. Since then they have been in hibernation for six months, but they’ve just emerged with their new single ’It Goes On’, which is easily their strongest track to date.

Old Time Machine ‘Tearing Me Down’
Old Time Machine is the name given to the collaboration between Canadian musicians Ryan McNally and Kyle Cashen, both of whom play enough instruments to comfortably record solo albums. However it’s when they’re playing together that they really shine, bouncing ideas and vocals off each other and combining pure folk instrumentation with unconventional elements such as electric drum machines. The result is some really special music.

The Royal Concept ‘Gimme Twice’
Swedish outfit The Royal Concept have just released their self-titled EP, featuring a blistering five tracks of upbeat sunny indie pop that sound an awful lot like Phoenix. Sure there are a lot of bands out there doing similar things, but The Royal Concept do it with such ease and skill that it’s hard not to fall for the hooks.

Lisa Mitchell @ St Michael’s Church, 13th Of June
If church is always as enjoyable as it was last Wednesday night then I’ve been missing out all my life. Lisa Mitchell and Georgia Fair put on a great show, but it really was the unusual venue that turned this from what would have been a couple-of-times-a-year experience to one that felt truly special. St Michael’s Church deceptively appeared as if it were designed for this kind of thing, and boasted great acoustics, a perfect balcony, and even a makeshift stage. It provided an incredible backdrop for the night’s entertainment.
