Old Time Machine ‘Tearing Me Down’

Old Time Machine is the name given to the collaboration between Canadian musicians Ryan McNally and Kyle Cashen, both of whom play enough instruments to comfortably record solo albums. However it’s when they’re playing together that they really shine, bouncing ideas and vocals off each other and combining pure folk instrumentation with unconventional elements such as electric drum machines. The result is some really special music.

The Royal Concept ‘Gimme Twice’

Swedish outfit The Royal Concept have just released their self-titled EP, featuring a blistering five tracks of upbeat sunny indie pop that sound an awful lot like Phoenix. Sure there are a lot of bands out there doing similar things, but The Royal Concept do it with such ease and skill that it’s hard not to fall for the hooks.

Tiger Waves ‘Weekends’

I discovered Tiger Waves recently through the always excellent IGIF, who described their single ’Weekends’ as ‘your new favourite song’. And they’re pretty spot on. It’s a really great, unpretentious, easy going indie rock track that presses all the right buttons and doesn’t do a whole lot wrong.

Tan Sister Radio ‘Flashing Vents’

Tan Sister Radio is a band featuring three twenty year olds from California, including Max Greenhalgh of And Pluck Your Strings favourites Inspired And The Sleep. They’ve just released a new single entitled ’Flashing Vents’, and to put it simply I really like it. It’s a great summery jam with a steadily growing rhythm and an irresistible hook.
