30 Day Song Challenge #10: A Song That Makes You Fall Asleep

[Day 10: A Song That Makes Your Fall Asleep]

Sigur Rós – Untitled #4

I wasn’t sure whether to interpret this prompt in a positive or negative way. If it means a song that literally forces me to fall asleep then look no further than MGMT’s Siberian Breaks, I’ve never been able to make it through the whole song without either falling asleep or giving up.

But I chose to interpret this as a song that helps me relax, seeing as it’s always better to put up music I actually like on this blog. And with this interpretation could come any number of Sigur Rós songs. Their earlier music has a way of relaxing me like not much else can, which is in particular true of the classic ‘()’ album.

This song  is known as The Nothing Song amongst Sigur Rós fans, and it doesn’t share the same sense of foreboding that some of the other tracks on the wonderful album do. Its lyrics are sung entirely in Hopelandic, the ‘language’ invented by the band, and it is a mesmerisingly beautiful song.

It’s doesn’t make me fall asleep per se, but it certainly relaxes me and makes me very content with life. Because after all, any world where music like this exists can’t be all that bad.
