Powderfinger Farewell Tour

“Slow burn, watching the world turn, from my arms. New way of measuring each day, until it’s gone.”

Love them or hate them, you can’t deny what Powderfinger have done for Australian music. After countless tours and seven studio albums, the boys have announced that it is time to call it quits.

Personally I believe the announcement comes at a good time for the band- they are still producing good music, even if it not of the calibre of their earlier work, and this allows them to go out on top.

In accordance with the breakup the band will be conducting their biggest national tour to date to saw farewell to their legions of fans throughout the country. Hopefully this tour will see them play the classics, rather than blatantly advertise ‘Golden Rule’, as they have done when I saw them live recently.

If you’ve been sitting on the fence about seeing Powderfinger live, this is your last chance (until they inevitably reform in five or so years).

Melbourne readers can catch the boys at Rod Laver Arena on the 10th of September, and for inter-state readers full tour dates are after the jump.

  1. Jet + Powderfinger in a huge sendoff? A bittersweet ‘yes please’, I’ll be going.

  2. The anouncement wasn’t exactly suprising. That said, they chose a good time to quit. It’s much better to go out when they’re still making reasonably good band than to be playing RSLs for the next ten years.
