Not many bands can calmly walk onto stage and play two of my favourite ever songs within the first ten minutes of the show. But that’s exactly what Zach Condon and his band did a couple of nights ago at The Forum in Melbourne, with a casual nonchalance that contrasted with just how important their music obviously was to many of the adoring people packed into the sold out venue. And the night had only just begun.

Gig Review: The Tallest Man On Earth @ The Corner Hotel, 25th October
Playing mostly gentle acoustic music to a packed Tuesday night crowd certainly isn’t the easiest gig in the world. Kristian Matsson, also deceptively known as The Tallest Man On Earth, made it look absurdly easy however, to the point where the crowd’s reaction can only be adequately described as that of hero worship.

Review: Pearl Jam ‘Twenty’
Last night I saw the Pearl Jam documentary ‘Twenty’ in a movie theater half-full with diehard fans of the band, including two people who had obviously confused the event with a concert and booked seats in the center of the front row. Directed by (and told through the point of view of) Cameron Crowe, a man just as interesting as the bands that he documents, this movie is brilliant, surprisingly powerful, and very interesting. But despite this it’s still strictly just for fans, which is perhaps why it only appeared in cinemas for the one night.
