Late last year Okkervil River, one of my favourite bands, gave their fans a nice Christmas present in the form of a free EP entitled ‘Golden Opportunities 2’. Typically, it’s a wonderful little gem, full of heartful and dramatic lofi numbers that compliment the much more polished and produced songs of their latest full-length release, ‘I Am Very Far’, very nicely indeed.

My 10 Favourite Gigs Of 2011
Musically speaking, I think my entire prior life had just been a warmup for this year. With only a few exceptions, you could pretty much name this list the ‘Best Gigs Of My Life’ and it would still be accurate. Many of these gigs have given me moments and memories that will stay with me forever, and more than anything they demonstrated just how powerful, important, and magical music can be.

Okkervil River Tour Gets Expanded
A while ago it was announced that Okkervil River would be appearing at the Melbourne Festival, playing a show at The Forum and with Will Sheff also playing a special solo gig at The Toff. Well the tour has just been expanded to include dates in Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Okkervil River Are Coming To Melbourne
Last night the Melbourne Festival unveiled its music lineup, and it has to be said that it’s quite impressive, featuring the likes of MONO, Aesop Rock, Black Dice, and Rat Vs Possum. By far of greatest interest however is that the lineup also includes none other than Okkervil River, one of my favourite bands.
