Earlier this year I was very surprised to see Boy And Bear’s drummer, Tim Hart, listed as the support act for Sufjan Stevens’ show in Melbourne. Sure, he had taken on more vocal duties for the band lately, but I still had no idea at all that he had a solo career. His opening set was simply fantastic though: gorgeous, pure, straight-up acoustic music that exhibited a true song-writing talent as well as a great voice and a charming stage presence. While it’s hard to see Tim devoting much more time to his solo music given how massive Boy And Bear have become, that’s no reason why we can’t enjoy the solo tracks that he has recorded so far

Elbow And Bombay Bicycle Club Australian Tour
In the most exciting tour announcement in quite some time, UK band Elbow have revealed that they will be returning to Australia less than a year after absolutely killing it at Splendour In The Grass. And, as if that wasn’t enough, they are also bringing fellow UK band, the excellent Bombay Bicycle Club, with them for the series of shows. This is not a tour to be missed, and it looks like I may just have to break my ‘no festival hall gigs’ policy. Tickets are on sale December 6th.

Active Child ‘Diamond Heart’
Active Child is the moniker of LA electronic musician Pat Grossi, but then if you don’t already know that then you probably don’t listen to a lot of Australian radio, because his debut album ‘You Are All I See’ has been played like crazy lately. Last Minute Bright Eyes Sideshow
In a truly surprising move that is indicative of the complete lack of competent organisation of Harvest sideshows, Bright Eyes have announced that they will be playing a Melbourne sideshow a mere two weeks before hitting our shores. This is great news for fans of the band that can’t make it to the festival, given that this is heavily rumoured to be Bright Eyes’ last Australian tour.

Gig Review: The Tallest Man On Earth @ The Corner Hotel, 25th October
Playing mostly gentle acoustic music to a packed Tuesday night crowd certainly isn’t the easiest gig in the world. Kristian Matsson, also deceptively known as The Tallest Man On Earth, made it look absurdly easy however, to the point where the crowd’s reaction can only be adequately described as that of hero worship.

Beirut And Fleet Foxes Sideshows
In long-anticipated news, Beirut and Fleet Foxes, both of whom are appearing at this year’s Falls Festival, have announced sideshows in Melbourne and other cities. I’m particularly excited for the former, but these are all going to be incredible shows. Here are the details.
