Tomas Strode And The Tour Guides are a Melbourne folk outfit who are gearing up for the release of their debut album. Accordingly they’ve released the first single from said album, The Sword. And it’s a nice piece of slowly growing, very peaceful folk music. Musically speaking it’s quite sophisticated, gradually and seamlessly adding one instrument after another to the mix, but more than anything it’s just a really relaxing and enjoyable example of straight-up folk music done right; a timely reminder that you don’t always need euphoric sweeping choruses to create a powerful song.
