High Highs ‘Open Season’

Brooklyn-based Australians High Highs have recently released their debut self-titled EP in Australia. It’s full of lovely, floating dream pop music that has just enough of an edge to it and features some magnificent, clear vocals and use of acoustic guitar. The last two things aren’t traditionally associated with dream pop, but they work very nicely here, as is evidenced by the EP opener, the suitably named Open Season. I particularly enjoy the change of pace at the 2:40 mark, and all in all it’s a strong song that hints at a lot of promise. It’s little wonder that they’ve been granted a coveted spot on the Laneway bill next year. Listen to Open Season below and check out High Highs on Facebook.
