Dan Croll ‘From Nowhere’

From Nowhere is the first official release from Liverpool-based musician Dan Croll, despite the fact that he’s already worked with the likes of James Vincent McMorrow and Maps And Atlases. The track grabbed me from the very start, with an introduction that sounds almost like some of Beirut’s electronic music before the guitar kicks in. Part of the joy of this song is that it’s so hard to pin it down as one genre: there’s a whole lot going on here, and the song only reveals its complexity gradually with repeated listens. Despite this however it’s also accessible from the off, and doesn’t get bogged down or too self-conscious like a lot of similar music does. This is definitely an artist to keep an eye on.
