If Iceland is anything like how I imagine it in my head then it is the coolest place in the world. Because as far as I can tell it’s some kind of magical land and musical haven with a disproportionate amount of amazing bands and some pretty sweet scenery as well. The latest band to reinforce this belief is Of Monsters And Men, an Icelandic sextet who released their debut album, ‘My Head Is An Animal’, earlier this year. Since getting my hands on it I have become absolutely obsessed with one song in particular, Little Talks. Check it out below, but keep in mind that this Soundcloud version of the song is very different to the one included on the album, which has a much better mix.
But yeah, I think this is pretty much the greatest thing ever. The playful interplay between lead vocalists Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson (thanks, Wikipedia and copy/paste) is very reminiscent of Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros, while the triumphant choruses sound a bit Arcade Firey and the instantly accessible folk vibe of the song kind of reminds me of Mumford And Sons. This song has a whole lot going for it, and I just… Cannot. Stop. Listening.
Of course Iceland is the coolest place in the world! what else?
