Ugly Kids Club ‘My Soul’

Nashville-based duo Ugly Kids Club have recently released their debut self-titled EP, complete with album art in direct contrast to their name. It’s ballsy to list influences such as The Kills and M83, but in this case I think it’s justified: this is dark, synth-driven, edgy rock music that gets under your skin and stays there. The EP’s first single, My Soul, typifies their approach to music, constructed around the line “Music is my lover, she’s a sage, she’s physical”, which in this case is quite true.

It’s nice and gritty, seemingly owing a lot to the music of the 90s, especially given that the band have released the song on cassette as well as digitally. Check them out on Facebook.
