The Bedroom Philosopher – Trishine

Most of The Bedroom Philosopher’s music makes me laugh- he is after all first and foremost a comedian. His latest album however, ‘Songs From The 86 Tram’, showed that he was also a genuinely great musician and was perfectly capable of blending comedy and music into a very likable and entertaining record.

This is my personal favourite song off the album, Trishine. It’s a love song written from the perspective of a bogan, and that’s all you need to know. There’s just something hilarious about the beautiful folk acoustic guitar backdrop juxtaposed with the lyrics of an inarticulate but emotionally damaged bogan.

Words… can get fucked

My heart’s been kicked out of bounds on the full

It’s actually inspired songwriting, and never fails to make me laugh, even if I’m in a public place listening to my iPod, which can be kind of awkward. It’s great fun live as well, when The Bedroom Philosopher takes on the character of the bogan with admirable dedication and skill.
