Here is part four of my three part series on the best albums of 2009.
Seeing as I have covered the my top 30, I thought I would quickly run over a few of the records that were very close to making the cut and are still whole-heartedly recommended, and a few that were ineligible for various reasons.
You can read part one here, part two here, and part three here.

Ineligible:
I’m not quite sure why this is popping up on so many ‘Best of 2009’ lists: for one thing, it’s actually a re-release of a 2008 record by the same name. Plus of course it is technically an EP, so is ineligible for my list of albums. But if not for these two (not so) minor factors, it would probably be in my top ten.
I made the decision early on not to include compilation albums in my list. But if I had, this would probably have been my number one album. It is almost certainly the greatest compilation album of all time, featuring artists that read like a who’s who of indie. If you don’t own it, buy it now, because all proceeds go to charity as well.
Again, EP. But also, it has been around for a while at their gigs, despite only having been officially released in 2009, so it’s a tricky one. May have snuck in.
So there you have it. There will be no part five of my three part series, I promise. This list has been getting a lot of attention, so I will consolidate all the parts into one post in the coming days.
